M.M.Y. comes from the first letters of Mevlüt Şimşek’s children, Muhammet, Mert and Yağmur.

Mevlüt Şimşek, who came to Istanbul from MERSİN in 1998, decided to make tantuni in a small wooden hut inside the OPET gas station on the Cemal Ulusuy Cad Basın Ekspres road… He named his company “MMY”, which is formed from the first letters of his children, Muhammet Mert and Yağmur… The company he started with 4 tables and 16 stools on 15 square meters has now become a company with more than 30 employees.

Mevlüt Şimşek explains the secret of his success with these words. ‘A person wants to believe, to crown the end of the road to success with hope. A person wants to believe to make sense of what he has achieved with his soul and every limb, and a person wants to believe to be able to say, “I am glad” at the point he stands today, with a little hope; but the good thing about having believed in life is that my success is seen so big by people on this path that I set out on with faith.’

MMY TANTUNI, Mevlüt ŞİMŞEK.

Mevlüt ŞİMŞEK, who started his business in 1987 with home cooked meal and döner in a small restaurant in Mersin, he quickly established himself in Mersin and his döner began to attract great attention. However,Mr Mevlüt’s love for the profession was so great that he decided to integrate and spread tantuni, which is only known in Mersin in Turkey and is about to be forgotten, with his own style and skill, instead of the döner that everyone knows. He decided to come to Istanbul on the long and difficult path he embarked on.

Mevlüt Şimşek, who came to Istanbul from MERSİN in 1998. He decided to make tantuni in a small wooden hut inside the OPET gas station on the Basın Ekspres road on Cemal Ulusuy Cad… He named his company “MMY”, which consists of the initials of his children, Muhammet Mert and Yağmur… He turned the company, which he started with 4 tables and 16 chairs on a 15 square meter area, into a company with more than 30 employees.

In order to produce a different flavor than the generally known tantuni, Mevlüt Bey organized a trip to Afyonkarahisar, Tekirdağ and Tokat regions and combined the meat he obtained from the beef, a livestock animal raised by the local people, with his own style of tantuni special garnish with a little sincerity, a little love, a little discipline, quality and experience and produced a formula. He presented this flavor to all guests coming from 15 different cultures and continents with great confidence and pride. Since it was a different flavor, MMY TANTUNİ began to be perceived as a place of discovery. Tantuni, which managed to become a favorite flavor and taste; was recognized in 15 and more cultures in a short time and managed to create tantuni regulars in Istanbul. It was presented to people’s taste because taste is a driving force, and as taste became known, demand increased. As demand increased, Mr Mevlüt  started to experiment more to make tantuni even more beautiful. In fact, these attempts were a test of Mevlüt ŞİMŞEK’s uncontrollable curiosity about cooking and the history of food culture. 

The trials yielded results and a different taste for Istanbulites and a solid foundation was laid for Mr. Mevlüt to get a little closer. This foundation was laid so healthily and lovingly that it grew a little more each day and in 2011, its commercial name was changed to “ÖZMAY GIDA TURİZM İNŞ. SAN. ve TİC. LTD. ŞTİ.” and its nameplate was MMY TANTUNİ, and another step was taken to increase the service production…

Since the day it was opened, Mmy Tantuni has tried to keep itself out of the understanding that is generally seen as a way to make easy money. Despite the feeling of alienation towards tantuni in Istanbul due to the respect and knowledge he has for his job, Mr. Mevlüt did not limit the profession to himself and decided to train masters for the profession in order to provide more interest to both the sector and the people. And now, in all of MMY tantuni restaurants, the taste masters trained by Mr. Mevlüt serve the guests with the same taste, quality and concept.
